1. Invite audience to a group interview
Invite members of your audience to a group interview where they'll be invited to create a small collage. See below for an email template you can use to reach out and follow-up: Email 1. We are (doing "X" for example: redesigning our website). As planning and improving step, we’re trying to understand the pressures and opportunities faced by (client - for example, our web users) So we’re asking a few people to come to our office to tell us about what they think they need. Because of your familiarity with ("Y" - a product or the person’s area of expertise), we think you have some insights about our software that would be valuable to us. I’m wondering if you might be willing to join our meeting. Our focus group is a small group of about (# - number of people you’ve decided on) people focused on providing their insight (thoughts, experiences, etc) about one issue to help our organization improve our (website). We’re planning to have # sessions; you would attend just one session which will take less than 20 minutes and you will receive a $50 gift card. Do you think this is something you might be willing to consider participating in? Email 2 We’re so grateful that you would join our session! [person’s name]. Thank you, and I’ll be in touch with an email soon." Email 3 Send them an email with the agenda, invite, address, etc" Add any emails or links to your email templates here,
2. Prepare an introduction to the topic.
Prepare an introduction to the topic. More information here: https://medium.com/@novatools/a-practical-guide-for-focus-groups-5165e27e6b67
3. Shopping List
If you are going to use an in-person collage session, prepare a list of collage supplies you'll need for each table. Make sure you offer drinks and snacks. Add the shopping list here. If you are leading the collage session using Nova - add all the pictures inside the board or create a card deck.
4. Prepare the Whiteboard
Prepare the tables (with materials for the collage, stickers to add their names, etc. ) and snacks before the session starts. *If you're going to use Nova, make sure you add additional images or create a card deck for it and you prepare a session for each participant. * We have added a few collage photos but you will need specific photos from a specific theme like: cleaning, happiness, family, work, etc

5. Prepare the initial question and conversation
For example, ask them to make a collage that represents what they think about schools, or what they look for in a dream job, or what they think about household cleaning, etc. Ask them to make a collage that represents “X”. Take notes and add your notes here.
6. Start the collage
The session leader will provide more information about the topic and about how to share your collage. Here is an example of a collage that an employee at Nova created responding to the question: "What is your goal?" Her goal was to work towards a balanced life and build a habit where she was able to build empowering relationships, build confidence, and feel safe by being able to build her own future.

7. Discuss collages
When they finish, have a team member sit down with them individually and ask them to talk about their collage. Start by asking an open question about what they're trying to express through the collage in general. Then go on to ask more specific questions about the design or colors they used, or why they chose certain imagery.
8. Archive Collages with your notes and interpretation (Optional)
Take a picture of each collage and keep notes from their description of their work. Allow them to take the collage home if they like. Add the link here to the online folder with all the collages and their answers.
9. Discuss and compile notes from the Interview Session
After you've completed the group interview and gathered notes get to a final conclusion. If you're using Nova, highlight the most relevant answers and add them to the board here to gather all key insights on a single board.
