About this process

Define mission is a core tool to help the organization determine what their objectives are by describing the core purpose of the organization, product or group. Your mission statement responds to why but also what drives the company. This statement will motivate the team toward a common goal.

1. What do we do?

An organization's mission statement describes the purpose of a product, person, group or organization. The mission sometimes can determine what’s different about you from your competitors. Start defining it by answering the basic question: What does the company / team / organization do?

4. Create a statement and add the board

Now you should have a better idea of what do you do and why your group exists. Try to be more specific and explore better ways to say it. Make sure your points are easy to memorize and your “Statement” communicates what and why your group exists clearly. Add your statement to the board using a sticky note. Your mission statement is what will drive the company. This statement will motivate the team toward a common goal. How can you make it more powerful?

5. Vote for the best statement

In this step, discuss the ideas and select the best ones.

Write your concluding thoughts here, and choose a statement to move forward with. If you have multiple candidates for a mission statement, you may want to use an Evaluation tool to further quality your options. Add your Mission Statement(s) to the output and share them with your team once it is defined.
