About this process

(Employee Growth Recommendations) When exploring ways to provide feedback and suggest ways for an employee to improve and grow, you may want to think holistically about different areas of work and how this employee can take the initiative to grow. A great tool to guide you through this process is the E.G.R Framework. It is quite simple to use and serves as a space for you as a manager to think about the recommendations you can give this employee in each of these areas.

2. 👉 Looking for Recommendations

Real change starts within yourself. Individual actions are extremely important, but sometimes, without the right leadership, team, and processes, some members of the team can't be successful. Depending on their personality and experience, some team members will need different things, and some may even have deal-breakers. For example, some employees will not tolerate toxic environments. When doing this exercise, evaluate what the employee can do or change to improve their performance and grow, and how other areas like the team, you as a leader, or even processes can be changed, removed, or added to support their growth.

👉The goal is to think holistically about how to fully support this individual and offer recommendations when providing feedback or during a performance review.

•Environment: What external factors or activities could help this person grow and improve? From coaching, training, and going back to school to attending conferences or talking with industry professionals.
•Leadership team: Leadership team: How can their direct leader help them grow? How can they provide and enable them to take ownership of their work and their growth? What can the leadership team change, add, remove, or stop doing to increase the success of this employee?
•Processes: What tools and processes can you implement to help this individual manage their work easily and save time? What processes can you improve or change to help this individual have more autonomy and confidence in what they do? How do you manage dependencies between you and this employee? What can you add, change, remove, or stop doing?
•Work Environment (the team/the environment): What can you do to improve the work environment and create a space where team members trust each other, cooperate, and have healthy discussions where opposing ideas are shared without fear or conflicts?
•Individual: Start with the individual, put yourself in their shoes, and think about what this individual can start, stop, or change in any of the mentioned areas that will help them deliver better results and also grow.
3. The individual (The details)

What to explore about individual change? When exploring how each individual can improve and what recommendations to offer, you may start by brainstorming and reflecting on what you have observed. You may ask yourself questions like:

😍What can this person do to improve how engaged and motivated they feel at work?

😤😧😏What changes in their mindset are needed?

🦵 What behaviors need to change or stop?

🤜🤛 What commitments or new habits need to be developed, and how can those be developed?

✔What changes are needed or expected regarding the effort put into each area of work?

🧠What belief system seems to be blocking this employee, and how can they find ways to work those out or change them?

🥐What needs should they be addressing that may be affecting how they feel (e.g., salary, rent)?

🧸What health-related things is this person neglecting? Are they exercising? Are they taking care of themselves? Are they sleeping? Are they stressed out? Are they taking enough vacation and enjoying life?

🧑‍⚕‍👨‍🔧👩‍🎤Do they have family or friends near them?

👀Or any other things you think they can do to be content and energetic at work.
