About this process
Gather all the information about trends and changes happening today on a local and global scale to guide you through the innovation process. This tool is helpful for mapping change over time, revealing opportunities, and defining the direction of your project or organization. A "trends matrix" will provide a high-level overview of technological, market, cultural, and business changes that will lead the future, and provide insights into how these trends can affect your future.

1. Relevant trends.
Conduct research and evaluate what trends are currently emerging and which ones are already established. Add one trend per sticky note and use a short sentence to describe the "trend" and how something is changing. A good example could be: Designers and copywriters have an increased interest in traveling and finding hotels with a good internet connection and co-working spaces to working remotely. Add each trend inside each row. Ensure all the trends added are helping to provide a high-level overview of current and future trends. You may decide to remove some trends that aren't relevant.
2. Mark all of the interesting trends.
Take 3-5 minutes to read all the sticky notes with trends, and make sure you use the "like" feature to mark them as important. Optional: Discuss each of the interesting trends.
3. Recognize patterns.
Do you see any pattern between these trends? What is happening today that leads to a different future? What are your predictions? Discuss what possible future direction the market is going and how these trends and changes will affect your project or organization. Once you are done, capture insights and add them to the conclusion section.
