1. Define the challenge or project
Start by defining with your team, the problem/project or the opportunity. This section describes the problem/opportunity the project seeks to address using factual information. In this step, the team needs to provide a clear and concise statement of the project’s purpose and intended results based on the initial description.
2. Defining success: "What would happen if you are successful?"
In this step, define what success looks like. Be clear about what defines success for this project. Respond to questions like: "What would happen if you are successful?" "How would you know that you are successful?" "What would you see/feel/hear/feel if you are successful?"
3. Goals & milestones
In this section, each team member should provide their own list of milestones that must be achieved in the project to realize the overall goal, from their own perspective. The objectives can be considered as “sub-goals” or “must-have”. After each team member has written their own list, move on to the next steps.
4. List of assumptions and constraints.
Start thinking about all the assumptions you are making and all potential constraints for each milestone, and list as many as you can think of below.
5. Reframe the challenge.
Now that you can see how your team members view the project, ask questions to reframe the project as you have defined it so far. Can you think of alternatives to each milestone? Challenge the thinking of your teammates, and highlight their best ideas.
