About this process

To flesh out the vision, you need to answer seven basic questions: Who, what, when, where, how, and why. As you fill in the template, think of it as a giant crossword or sudoku puzzle. To summarize the OPSP process provides the organization with: A framework that details your corporation's vision. A common language with which to express that vision. A well-developed routine. This tool was designed to help a team get the technical aspects of the strategic plan correct.

1. Core Values.

List the firm's core values in the first column. These three to eight phrases broadly define the shoulds and shouldn't that govern your company's underlying decisions and describe the personality of the organization.

What are your core values? ⭐

If your company was a living organism with a distinct personality - explain that personality through values.

This is a discovery process and should be tested.

2. Core Purpose.

If the first column represents the SOUL of the organization, then column 2 presents its HEART.

This column answers very basic questions:

•Why is this company doing what it's doing?
•What's its higher purpose?
•What should we have passion for what we're doing?
4. 10+ Year Goal.

Create a list of 3 of 10 initiatives for the company year. Set very specific and expanded financial outcomes at the top of the column,

Next, ask " What are a handful of key Initiatives we must complete in the next 10 years to achieve our financial outcomes and hit our Critical Number?

5. CEO Actions

Define: CEO actions and responsibilities.

6. The next 3 years: Hairy Audacious Goals.

Your 3-year financial target should be 🙌aspirational and aggressive.

Let's start!

Start by adding a future date. Set the ending date for this medium-term planning period.

•Revenue: Consider hitting a target revenue that's twice what it is today.
•Profit: Consider targeting three times industry average profitability. this is the definition of great vs. good company.
•Mkt.Cap: Set a goal for what the company will be worth and how much cash you will have in the bank.
•Year highly achievable goal.

3-5 differentiators.

•Clearly articulate the key needs you're going to satisfy for this sandbox: the measurable brand promise. Include KPIs.
7. 1HAG.

1. 1HAG

•Ending date of your fiscal year.
•How much cash do we want in the bank on this date and what do we want our topline revenue to be for the fiscal year?
•What will be the total widgets we'll have to sell in order to achieve that cash in the bank?

2. Create a list of annual priorities.

3. Critical Number.

This can end up in a draft for now, but it will be good enough.

8. 90 Days.

90 days

•How much cash do we want in the bank on this date and what do we want our topline revenue to be for the fiscal year?
•What will be the total widgets we'll have to sell in order to achieve that cash in the bank?

Create a list of quarterly priorities.

Critical Number.

This can end up in a draft for now, but it will be good enough.

9. Theme.
•Theme Name: Brainstorm a fun and relevant title for the quarterly theme. Current movie or song titles work well.
•Scoreboard Design. Something visible so everyone can see the score, which is updated daily or weekly.
•Celebration: The quarterly theme gives you a reason to host an event to either celebrate the accomplishment of a big goal.
•Reward: Incentives or prizes.
