1. Intro: Culture and Rituals.

Culture is what we repeatedly do. Team rituals help bring your company culture to life.

According to IDEO's CEO Tim Brown, "Rituals create a constant nudging so that, over time, a culture learns to do something naturally and intuitively."

How to design succesful rituals?

โ€ขOnce the ritual is finished, how do we want people to feel? Rituals make people feel better.
โ€ขRituals occur with a particular frequency.

A good example of a ritual is how OREO made 'twist, lick, dunk' a ritual.

  • I am ready to start!
  • I would need a few examples.
2. Team Values and Commitments.

In order for us to be successful, what type of commitment and values do we need from all of us? As a team, we have weaknesses. Which of these commitments requires additional reinforcement? Would you add an additional one?

Choose one or more
  • Cooperation. We are committed to helping and empowering each other.
  • Belonging. We are committed to creating a sense of belonging.
  • Ownership & Responsibility. We are committed to taking ownership.
  • Autonomy & Authenticity. Providing autonomy and creating a space for trust and authenticity.
  • Equity. We are committed to providing fair equity and recognition.
  • Excellence. We are committed to excelling at what we do to ensure our success and the success of others.
3. Brainstorm team rituals.

Few questions:

โ€ขWhat if the ritual happens outside of the office?
โ€ขTurn something uncool we already do into an exciting experience.
โ€ขCome up with ideas that are analog (no tech needed).
Add sticky notes
4. Team Launch & Project Kick off.

How can we get to know each other quickly? How might we align on the purpose?

Add sticky notes
5. Team building & Trust.
โ€ขHow might we overcome rancor and bitterness between team members? How do we turn negative emotions into positive ones?
โ€ขHow do we become more mistake tolerant?
Add sticky notes
6. Celebrate wins and progress.

How can we use quick wins to build momentum? How do we celebrate success?

How do we celebrate the end of a project? How do we recognize collective effort and accomplishments?

Add sticky notes
7. Team Rules (Norms)

Now, let's set some ground rules. These rules are typically discussed and agreed to early during the formation of a team.

A good way to start brainstorming abour rules is to write down the best experiences you had working with a team and what unwritten rules may have contributed to that success.

Here are a few examples: 1) Meetings will start and end on time. 2) Conflict will address ideas rather than personalities. 3) Members will listen from the โ€œWeโ€ but speak from the โ€œI.โ€ 4) 24h to respond a slack message.

Add sticky notes
8. Notes and takeaways.

(This step is optional) Add comments, notes and takeaways.

Write a note
9. Feedback.

Provide feedback before you go. Was this meeting helpful? How would you rate this meeting? ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜‘
